一個偉大的品牌，都有一個簡單的開端。
今天，2023年3月16日，57年前滑板街頭潮流品牌Vans，在加州開啟了品牌生涯。

每個不平凡的品牌起源，都有一個平凡且簡單的訴求：解決消費者痛點。
五十多年前，在1970年代的南加州，那個訴求是具有黏性的的鞋子外底來幫助滑板手更好的去表現滑技。
Vans 做到了，到今天，它已經是家喻戶曉的滑板代名詞，源自於滑板、延伸至音樂、藝術、到不斷地重新定義自我創意表達。

在2012年的美國馬里蘭州的大學公園城，就讀MBA (Master of business management with focus on entrepreneurship) 的我，深受學校Angle fund entrepreneurship center – Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship的啟蒙，對entrepreneurship有了深深的吸引。跟自我驅動的人格特質相仿，我到Dingman自願的打工，席間 聽了很多Washington DC 一代的創業家，不乏20、30年工作經驗豐富並決定創業的資深工作者，給Virginia為首投資者的elevator pitch。
對於當時資淺的我，常常驚訝於20年功底的溝通精準與自我推銷能力，前兩三分鐘就要說出痛點、詳述商機、並說出一朵花 ; 另一方面，也驚訝於評審的評價與之間的來回對話。儘管那時很多時候我都是處於呆萌的狀態，卻也學習到不少關於presentation、elevator pitch、start up business的應對。
然後因為Dingman，2013年我第一次到了中國，那是在北京，跟北大清華學生比business plan competition，然後才進一步啟蒙我之後到廣州、時至今日於上海工作。

直到今晚，一個跟好友的對話讓我想到那個時期的我，一轉眼，已經10年過去了…。

今天，2023年3月16日，Vans 57週年的生日。一個當初誕生在南加州的小眾滑板品牌，第一個月只有12個消費者上門，如今已成長成為一個跨國的滑板頂尖指標。
想說的是，不斷因應當下的消費者跟時代訴求、去想像、改變、重新塑造自己，回應、甚至引領消費者需求，才會有未來。
而這一切，源自於你看ㄧ件事情最初切入的角度。
簡單說，源自於格局。
Steve Jobs once said:
“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”
Connect the dots, trust your guts, believe they will connect, and build a vision, against this ever-changing world.
回想起來，在加州住過跟旅遊的時光、在北京跟北大清華比商業競賽的日子、在Dingman聽business fund pitching的日子，甚至在Nike工作的見聞，打開了視野、拓寬了格局、引領了思考。
The key is never about what keeps changing, but rather what remains unchanged.
